Young Arts- Mosaic panels for Abbey 900
Tuesday 03 April 2018

42 mosaic panels have been completed by pupils at local schools and youth organisations in Cirencester. The panels have been designed and created by the young people under the guidance of Debbie Stirling a local mosaics artist. During the summer and winter of 2017 schools were visited and their puplils invited to design and create up to three panels depicting events and activities at the medieval Abbey of St. Mary Cirencester which celebrated its 900th anniversary last year. Further schools visits were arranged for early 2018.

The Arts Societies Cirencester and Corinum  each contributed £600 towards the cost of the project with a further  £1500 being granted by the Ernest Cook Foundation Trust and £600 being raised by Debbie's students.

Now that the panels have been completed they are permanently displayed on a wall in the Abbey Grounds. The "unveiling " took place on Sunday 1st July.  Over 100 people attended the event.
